Description
This lesson sets your students up to do three things very well:
1. Practice crafting an introductory paragraph for rhetorical analysis (FRQ2)
2. Accurately ascertain a text’s meaning and the author’s intent
3. Crush the thesis point
For those of you who are familiar with my work, you know that I love to use short videos in my instructional practices.
Well, commercials are great to teach the rhetorical appeals!
Here are the five commercials that serve as the centerpiece of our thesis construction practice:
The Apple 1984 commercial
Winston Cigarette/Flinstone commercial
Snickers/Mr. T commercial
Hamms Beer Cartoon commercial
Kmart “Ship My Pants” commercial
As always, I “Bob Ross” how to pull the strings of my template in these writing workshops – so all that writing “stuff” should be demystified for your students.
