Spingo: Gamifying the Teaching of the 12 Sentence Constructs

In their seminal text, Write It Right, Strunk & White assert that there are 12 different ways to cobble together a single sentence.

They refer to this as Rule #18

An observation I have made in my 20+ year career as a compositon instructor is this: struggling and emerging writers only wield 2-3 of the 12 setnence constructs … hence the droning tone they create by paralleling their patterns.

As a means to teach voice, rhythm, and flow – I gamify my instruction to teach students how to manipulate their syntax at sentence level.
