During my time with the National Writing Project, it became abundantly clear that teachers prefer to work 1:1 with me for a number of reasons:
- Modeling writing can be a terrifying prospect (students can be brutal with us). Given this, the 1:1 course affords teachers to take risks with their learning in a very safe space. With my guidance and instruction, not only will you be more than comfortable to “Bob Ross” your instruction, but you will become a stellar writing instructor.
- Not all of us teach the same courses; and further, not all districts are built the same. In the 1:1 course, we can tailor-make a program that is not only built around your course load, but with your particular students in mind. Whether you teach AP or on-level, I have your back. I have taught the gamut over my 20+ year career – and everything from my Word Study Academy to my Nuance Academy, even my heuristics and “Bob Ross” approach – is a perfect fit for what you are trying to achieve as a writing instructor.
We meet over the period of five sessions that are 90-minutes in length live in Zoom (you set the schedule). During our time together, you will learn how to implement my compositional heuristics into your instructional practices while also becoming familiar with the 25+ alternatives to traditional grading. Further, you will have ample time to construct your own writing workshops with my guidance and support.

In addition, for your continual support and development, you will have access to a Google Classroom rife with pre-made writing workshops, bell ringers, vocabulary and nuance exercise – everything you could possibly need to grow and flourish as a writing instructor. Just to give you a sense, for both AP Language and AP Literature, I have writing workshops for every FRQ dating back to 2015 to the present. And for on-level instructors, I have dozens of prepared synthesis, rhetorical analysis, literary analysis, argument, persuasion – even research paper writing workshops. And the kicker – I add content to the Classroom on a weekly basis – word study, nuance, voice, rhythm, flow, grammar, punctuation, syntax, gamified approaches, edutainment tricks of the trade – and so much more. I even take special requests. So, if you want something, and if I can get my head around what you’re trying to achieve – I am more than willing to help.
If you’re looking for creative, fun, and effective ways to get your students to grow and mature as writers, this is the course for you.
