(Note: I am now offering this as a 1:1 option so that teachers can tailor-make the course to their specific grading needs. In approaching it from this angle, we can hone in on the particular expository modes you find yourself grading the most. From past experience, teachers state that the more comfortable they are with my writing heuristics, the more successful they are with the alternative grading methods. Given this, I am also bundling the Teach it “Write” Self-Paced Course for teachers looking for a more expansive immersion experience. We all know that as an English teacher, the bane of our evening and weekend existence often entails endless stacks of paper grading, just to stay afloat.
To top it off, traditional grading methods do very little to enable our students to grow and mature as writers.
In fact, with the onus placed squarely on our shoulders, students do very little of the heavy lifting – hence the continual struggle from both sides of the equation.
And let’s face it, grading essays can feel like shoveling a pile of smoke – a rather futile, yet requisite part of the job.
But here’s the good news…
There are far more effective grading practices that not only liberate you from being a red-ink-hawk, but that will catapult your students’ writing abilities while requiring far less time on your end.
In my Alternative Grading Methods Two- Hour Intensive I will provide the tools you need to tackle the ever-consuming and seemingly endless task of paper grading.
In this live 2-hour intensive, you will learn:
25+ alternative grading methods that will alleviate the burdens and demands of grading essays and enable your students to grow and mature as writers by equipping them with the necessary tools of grammar, punctuation, and syntax in order to cultivate rhythm, flow, and voice
How to use and apply my 3 groundbreaking heuristics – the declarative and inverted thesis, as well as the syllogistic method
With your enrollment you will also receive:
A copy of my classroom companion textbook Teaching Teachers How to Teach Writing
And if you choose, as an add-on bonus, my Teach It “Write” Self-Paced Course with 10 instructional videos to expertly guide you through my 25 alternative grading methods along with how to use and apply my three ground-breaking heuristics across the expository modes: (literary analysis, rhetorical analysis, argument, synthesis, persuasion, and even research)
By the end of our session together, you will have a clear understanding of how to reclaim your evenings and weekends and say “NO” to a tired system that neither serves you nor your students.
These alternative grading methods and templates are my brain children. I love sharing them with teachers because I can literally see my colleagues take possession of something they’ve lost along the way – their precious time and their will to be a strong and impactful presence in the classroom.
