Etch-A-Sketch (Sentence Patterns 1-5)

$7.99

A tell-tale trait of an emerging or struggling writer is this: they have a tendency to completely over-rely on short-simple-declarative sentences.

To get students to have better voice, rhythm, flow — I explicitly teach students Strunk and White’s Rule # 18 (the concept that there are 12 sentence types and 20 different patterns to craft each type).

In today’s video, I address patterns 1-5.

Each pattern has 5 corresponding Etch-A-Sketch slides to unpack how to wield and craft the pattern (kind of like Monkey-See-Monkey-Do … I model the pattern 5 times … students follow my lead).

Over the coming days, I’ll make videos for the remaining patterns.

The slides in the video are included in your download.
