Using Oscar Nominated Shorts (Inverted Thesis Heuristic) “What Did Jack Do?”

Heading into exam season (AP & Regents) … Here’s where things stand:

1. My students often struggle to ascertain the complex meaning of a text

2. Far too many of my students take all of eternity to eke-out an essay

3. Kids who have put their arms around my heuristics are faring much better than those who are winging “it” by their own devices

To practice the art of hammerin’ home a thesis, I often use Oscar Nominated Short Films … and I have a doozy for today’s writing workshop … David Lynch’s classic “What Did Jack Do?”

In the video, you’ll see me “Bob Ross” how to write the introductory paragraph three times all while pulling the strings of my inverted thesis heuristic.

Not only do your students get an opportunity to hone their reads, but they can sharpen their compositional prowess as well … while also working on their pacing.
